Delete your Decode the City account

Last updated: 14 September 2026

Decode the City is operated by Hatch, an independent developer. Decode the City is the web app name, not a separate incorporated company.

Request deletion in the web app

Open Account, choose Delete account, read the consequences and confirm. Sign in again with the same Apple or Google account if asked to verify ownership. Keep guest access on the original device until your request has been accepted.

Open your account in a browser

Open https://play.decodethe.city/#/account in a browser, sign in with the same account used for the game, and choose Delete account. A guest session from another device may not be recoverable in your browser.

If you cannot sign in or no longer have access to the guest session, email hello@decodethe.city with the subject Decode the City account deletion, or use https://play.decodethe.city/#/support and select Account or privacy. Provide an account email or game/order reference that helps us locate the account. We will verify ownership. Do not send passwords, full card details or identity documents unless separately requested through an appropriate channel.

What happens

Deletion removes your authentication account, membership and associated support tickets and account subcollections. Your player entry is removed from teams. Your activity text is redacted and some retained references are replaced with a pseudonymous deleted-account identifier. Unfinished games you organise are cancelled for all participants. Other players retain their own history and shared results.

We retain transaction references needed for refunds, accounting and disputes, and minimal security/deletion records used to prevent old credentials or purchases being reused. These are not all irreversibly anonymous. We retain only what remains necessary for those purposes, considering purchase-recovery obligations, the relevant accounting period, unresolved disputes and the risk of credentials or receipts being reused. See the privacy policy for the retention criteria by data type. Provider backup and log copies follow their applicable retention and deletion arrangements; active-database deletion is not immediate removal from every backup. Support email held in Workspace or the founder’s Gmail inbox is considered separately from in-app support tickets when processing a request.

We handle requests without undue delay and normally respond within one month. If a lawful extension or an exception applies, we explain it and the expected next step. The app's acceptance message means processing has started. Closing the browser or clearing browser data does not delete the account. Account deletion cannot be undone and does not itself request a refund or delete your separate Apple/Google account.
